Mariska Gets Tattooed

Mariska Hargitay Gets Tattooed to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence and Abuse

For some, a tattoo is just a surface adornment. For Mariska Hargitay, star of Law and Order: SVU and Safe Horizon Board Member, it serves as a means for spreading awareness about a cause for which she cares deeply.

Hargitay donned a temporary tattoo as part of Safe Horizon’s spring 2007 public awareness campaign, which is educating millions about the impact of domestic violence and abuse on women, children, and especially teens.

The tattoo is a graphic treatment of the words, “NO DISRESPECT.” Being disrespected by a partner is a sign that a relationship may be abusive.

“Wearing this tattoo will help raise awareness by starting conversations about the signs of domestic violence and abuse, especially the less obvious ones.”
-- Mariska Hargitay
