What do Joyful Heart, a lightsaber, and your running shoes all have in common?

Answer: they're all part of the 2017 Star WarsTM Half Marathon when you join Joyful Heart's Team!

Joyful Heart is now an official charity partner of the 2017 Star WarsTM Half Marathon – The Light Side Weekend, and you’re invited to join us! With varying race lengths, there are options for everyone: a 5k on Friday, January 13; 10k on Saturday, January 14; the half marathon on Sunday, January 15; and the epic Rebel Challenge for true Jedi (ahem, fitness) pros, which entails the 10k and half marathon!

All the races unfold at the beautiful Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, California the weekend of January 13 - 15, 2017.

You can be a part of it when you join the Joyful Revolution Athletic Club team. You’ll be joining a community of Joyful Heart supporters who are raising funds and awareness for our work through your training and race participation. We’ll support you in your fundraising efforts along the way, connect you with other runners, send you a Joyful Heart dri-fit tee, and more!

Featured Joyful Revolution Athletic Club Team Member: Erica

Many of our Joyful Revolution Athletic Club members have deeply meaningful ties to our work. Today, we’re featuring the incredible story of Erica Linderman and her healing journey. A survivor of childhood sexual abuse, Erica struggled for years with self-esteem, sobriety, and the toll of abuse. She credits a loving support system, therapy, her own determination, and discovering a love for running with helping her along her healing journey.

“I had no idea running would come to be such an important tool for me in my journey of recovery and healing. I have learned that I am capable of so much more than I ever thought or believed. I have learned that even though I typically run alone, there are times when I can’t and I need someone to run with me and help get me through. I have learned that a lot can happen if I just keep putting one foot in front of the other. And I have felt the exhilaration that comes from running towards something instead of running away from it.”

This November, Erica is running in the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon for the third time, and we are grateful that she has chosen to run this year as a member of the Joyful Revolution Athletic Club team. She hopes that her voice can help change the staggering statistics around these issues and offer other survivors inspiration and hope. Ready to Join?

Whether you’re training for a marathon, organizing an intramural team, or participating in another sporting event, you too can join the Joyful Revolution Athletic Club!

It's simple:

  1. Choose your activity. We have information on our website about where you can find 5Ks, walks, triathlons, marathons, cycling races, and more. Whether you're racing on your own or as part of a team, our website and staff can help you every step of the way.
  2. Complete the sign-up form on our website. We'll use this to make a personal fundraising page just for you. You can set up a goal, create a custom introduction to your supporters, and even add your own image.
  3. Spread the word! Once your page is set up, it's easy. You can recruit others to join you, or ask your networks to support your efforts. Be sure to spread the word in person too. When you see your friends and family, don't forget to tell them about your goal and direct them to your page!
