Transforming Trauma Workshops

Geared towards professionals who serve survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, Joyful Heart’s Transforming Trauma workshops explore how secondary trauma affects individuals and organizations, and start the conversation toward solutions.

The full-day workshop begins with an educational discussion introducing and exploring vicarious trauma and its effects. Participants then move into break-out sessions in which they can explore modalities that they can take with to implement practices of self-care and sustainability moving forward. Previous Transforming Trauma Workshops have included sessions exploring such modalities as:

  • creative arts
  • guided writing
  • aromatherapy
  • yoga
  • mediation
  • dance and movement
  • play
  • mindfulness

All Transforming Trauma programs bring together healing professionals from across our community. They offer not only an opportunity to explore and address vicarious trauma, but a safe and nurturing environment in which to do this—in the presence of others who may be experiencing similar challenges that come from bearing witness to suffering or working in a field where the resources continuously do not meet the need.

By increasing knowledge and understanding of the impact of vicarious trauma and an exploration of holistic approaches to managing traumatic levels of stress, compassion fatigue and burnout, our goal is to restore balance and renew hope and possibility for those doing this work.

“I sat with my clients today and felt like I was present and attuned in a calmer, more loving, peaceful way than last week. I can actually feel the difference, and I know they can too. I so desperately needed what you so freely and skillfully gave—thank you.”
