Joyful Heart’s website now offers Spanish-language resources to make our educational materials about sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse accessible to those who speak Spanish, including the more than 40 million Spanish speakers in the United States.

One in three Hispanic women has experienced physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime, and one in 12 Hispanic women has experienced this violence within the previous 12 months. To better serve this population, we are providing relevant information on violence and abuse.

Our Spanish-language section includes definitions of terms related to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and examples of types of abuse. We are giving our Spanish-speaking community the same tools we offer in English to help survivors and their loved ones better understand and recognize this violence.

We have compiled a list of resources for Spanish speakers grouped by sexual assault and rape, domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect, with a page of national and local resources. The list of organizations includes Spanish-language versions of their websites, where possible. For phone numbers listed, directions are provided on how to connect to a Spanish-speaking advocate when making a call if there is not an initial prompt in Spanish.

We have also translated our 6 Steps to Support a Survivor resource. The page offers tools—words, actions, and resources—to help people support someone who shares their personal experiences.

Through this section, we hope to better represent and reflect our growing community, including those who speak different languages. We invite you to explore our Spanish pages and to share the information and resources with those who need them.
